In the Laundry

There is nothing better than clean clothes and a clean conscience!

What should you do if there is no plastic-free choice?  Or, if the plastic-free choice is just too expensive?  Here are some good guidelines to make the most sustainable decision:

  • Make sure you know exactly what type of plastics your local recycling company collects and try to stick to purchasing those plastics.

  • If you live in an area that has recycling available, choose plastic over the cardboard Tetra-Pak because plastic can be recycled.  Tetra-Pak can only be upcycled into new products but that is not as widely available as recycling.

  • Choose a package that is made of one type of plastic.  This makes it easier to recycle.  Avoid packages made of mixed plastics where possible

  • If you order things online and end up with a bunch of plastic films, bubble wrap, or other non-rigid plastic take those to your local grocery store where they often collect film plastics for recycling.  This is the largest growing recycling market and really does work!  Local grocery doesn't have a collection bin?  Find out how you can recycle plastic film here: https://bagandfilmrecycling.org/
